Protest US-funded Israeli War Crimes in Gaza, Friday, January 2, 2009, 2:30PM, Cleveland State University Campus (outside), Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urbn Affairs, 1717 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland 44115
In a symbolic gesture of solidarity, with demonstrations across the globe at Israeli Embassies, we assembled across the street from the Jewish Federation of Cleveland to make a more direct appeal for peace.
A diverse group of speakers and sponsoring organizations urged:
1. US Congress and President Bush to condemn Israel for war crimes and stop blaming the victims, Palestinians, now imprisoned by a two year siege, preceded by decades of military occupation. US tax dollars are supporting war crimes and are a violation of the Geneva Conventions and the US Arms Export Control Act, which does not condone use of weapons on civilians.
2. Israel to immediately cease military attacks and ethnic cleansing in the Gaza Strip which has killed 380 Palestinians in five days and caused over 1000 injuries.
3. US and Israel to end the siege of Gaza and stop collective punishment of 1.5 million Gazans. Such punishment is a violation of Article 33 of the Fourth Geneva Convention. Seventy-five percent of the children of Gaza are suffering from malnutrition.
This protest was sponsored by the Cleveland Middle East Peace Forum and the Beit Hanina Palestinian Social Club of Cleveland.
