Come out on Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday , Monday January 19th, to the Cuyahoga County Justice Center, 1200 Ontario(go to Lakeside entrance) from noon to 2pm. It is organized mainly by Black on Black organization and other groups. It is a protest against the disparity in sentencing between Black people and white people as well as treatment in the jails, brutality by the police in and out of jail and the police murders going on especially among minorities. We cannot forget the people in jail right now and many that have been killed in jail and out of jail, ie. Sean Levert, Sean Bell, Rodney King, Brandon MC Cloud, Angelo Miller, Timothy THomas, Amadou Diallo, Jeffery Stevens, and scores of others. We demand an end to racism in the courts, proper health care, fair treatment in the jails, no targeting of young people and excessive force by the police. We stand in solidarity with heroic Gaza as well so... Afterwards there will be a march in support of the people of Palestine to the rock and roll hall of fame....Don't use our tax dollars to kill children! Gaza Bombing Protest 1/2/2009 : Protest US-funded Israeli War Crimes in Gaza, Friday, January 2, 2009, 2:30PM, Cleveland State University Campus (outside), Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urbn Affairs, 1717 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland 44115
In a symbolic gesture of solidarity, with demonstrations across the globe at Israeli Embassies, we assembled across the street from the Jewish Federation of Cleveland to make a more direct appeal for peace.
A diverse group of speakers and sponsoring organizations urged:
1. US Congress and President Bush to condemn Israel for war crimes and stop blaming the victims, Palestinians, now imprisoned by a two year siege, preceded by decades of military occupation. US tax dollars are supporting war crimes and are a violation of the Geneva Conventions and the US Arms Export Control Act, which does not condone use of weapons on civilians.
2. Israel to immediately cease military attacks and ethnic cleansing in the Gaza Strip which has killed 380 Palestinians in five days and caused over 1000 injuries.
3. US and Israel to end the siege of Gaza and stop collective punishment of 1.5 million Gazans. Such punishment is a violation of Article 33 of the Fourth Geneva Convention. Seventy-five percent of the children of Gaza are suffering from malnutrition.
This protest was sponsored by the Cleveland Middle East Peace Forum and the Beit Hanina Palestinian Social Club of Cleveland.

New Years Eve 2008 with Bread & Puppet Theatre : Bread and Puppet Theatre presented A New Years Eve Insurrection Mass to celebrate another year gone by. Culminating in the second annual Funeral March for the Rotten Ideas of the Year 2008 now, which was a spectacular procession through Coventry village even in the bitter cold. The Insurrection Mass is a non-religious Puppet Service in the presence of the paper-mache gods of the day, with a Fiddle Sermon inspired by the Rotten Idea of the day. The show & procession were participated in by kids of all ages. So, Why Is this mass an Insurrection mass? What exactly inspires insurrection? And what makes insurrectionists celebrate mass? The celebration of an Insurrection mass has several functions: 1) to lift up the depressed souls of frustrated citizens 2)to sing a new song which is raw enough to combine all the sweet and sour notes of the human voice into one big yell, as big as a tornado, or even a steady breeze 3)to tickle wishy-washy minds with the possibility of insurrection. Insurrection means: possibilitarian anarchic celebration is victorious over Not-SO-Bad-any-more pseudo-hope or even everything-is-meaningless post-modern nihilism. Insurrection means: the victory of cheap artists over the moneymaking religion. Insurrection means: life is possible! Publicity and Support came from Cleveland Food Not Bombs, Cleveland Hts Library (the warm room and outdoor starting point), NOAC (Northeast Ohio Anti-War Coalition) (emailed notice of the event, a few of us showed up, & Cyndie even helped) and, of course, the wonderful amazing colassal Bread and Puppet Theatre...... Happy New Year 2009.... (photo note: i've included all but the very worst quality pix so excuse the fuzzy stuff and the video clips range from so-so to ok... feel free to download, copy or post anything you find here with simply credit to gkotrba if published)

NOAC / Peace Action 4000 / 1,000,000 3-25-08 Veterans Memorial Bridge : Upon the announcement of the 4000th military death in Iraq, NOAC, Peace Action and inumerable individuals and groups such as Veterans for Peace, CNVN, Women Speak Out and others gathered on the Veterans Memorial Bridge to commemorate this terrible milestone along with the death of an estimated 1,000,000 or more Iraqi civilians. Not that this death is any more or less significant than any of the previous 3999, rather that it highlights the terrible and unecessary loss of life for the lies that created this war. Honking horns from passersby in response to our visible presence and to the 4000 names strung on the bridge fences, both north and south side, and the 4000 lights held by participants, confirms the ever growing opposition to this unjust, immoral, illegal war. All photos and video clips taken, including badly focused and poorly framed ones, are included, tho 7-8 more video clips will be added as the day, 3-26, and upload time allows, check back after 3-26 to see those; also note the addition of 7 photos from a member of Veterans for Peace Chapter 39 (send pix to me if you want them included or let me know of a site that can be included here for reference... Thank you to all the individuals who helped create and participated in this memorial. Please leave a comment if you wish and contact gkotrba@cs.com if you wish to have a particular photo removed and it will be done....

Hands Off Iraqi Oil - AFSC - PDA 2/23/08 : The Proposed Iraq Oil Law giving the U.S. and other foreign oil corporations the primary role in developing Iraqi oil, is about to go before Iraq’s Parliament. The Bush administration is heavily pressuring the Parliament to pass this proposal. The current proposed law favors production Sharing Agreements (PSAs) -- exclusive 30-year contracts allowing the U.S. and other foreign oil corporations to control the extraction, development, and depletion of Iraq’s oil, which has been in the public sector since the 1970s. Challenging the myths on Iraqi oil policy and the current Oil Law is an important part of the debate on resource sovereignty and the future independence of Iraq. Who should decide the future of Iraq’s oil industry and through it, the economy of the country? The people of Iraq, free from duress and external pressures, or foreign oil corporations and occupying powers? Sponsored by: American Friends Service Committee: 330/928-2301, Progressive Democrats of America - Ohio: 330/807-9096, UUCA Social Action Committee: 330/836-2206
